These days its rather essential to have some sort of web presence. Whether it be for personal or professional purposes websites are a great way to do it. Here I will teach you how to do it all your self for close to free and give you several tools to help you along the way.

Here are a few things you will need to create a decent website:

  1. Hosting company – to “host” your website (WebHostingMen.com has the best hosting companies ranked for just about any type of site you are planning to make)
  2. Domain name – the name you give your website (Example: www.banjova.com). Many hosting companies such as WebHostingPad will sell you the domain name along with their your hosting plan. I recommend doing this because it can be a hassle if you ever want to change your hosting company or registrar.
  3. Text editor – to create the html and CSSĀ files I prefer Notepad++, because it is very straightforward and easy to use but most of all it is free
  4. FTP client – software that will upload your files to the website (Notepad++ includes an FTP client). FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.

Some other tools to help you run your website:

  1. Google Analytics – Learn more about where your visitors come from and how they interact with your site. You’ll get the information you need to write better ads, strengthen your marketing initiatives, and create higher-converting websites. Learn more about the benefits. Google Analytics is free to everyone, whether you are an advertiser, publisher, or site owner.
  2. FeedBurner - helps you track how many feed subscribers you have. If you have a website, blog, audio/video content, or even photos, you can offer a feed of your content as an option. If you are using a popular blogging platform or publishing tool like TypePad, Wordpress, or Blogger, you likely publish a feed automatically.
  3. Google Webmaster Tools – provides you with detailed reports about your pages’ visibility on Google. To get started, simply add and verify your site and you’ll start to see information right away.
